Jen Goes to New York. Dave Wasn’t Invited.

Those who know Jen know she has a son in the military (her only child btw). When she gets a chance to see him, she jumps at it! Jen’s son Zack is getting ready to deploy soon and has been traveling all of May for various trainings. One training placed Zack at Fort Dix in New Jersey. When Jen and Rob found out he would have a free weekend so close to Southport they jumped in the car and drove up to see him for the weekend.

Zack is a firefighter in the Air Force so the first stop in New York was the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Jen had brought Zack there when he was younger but now that he is a firefighter, he saw it through an entirely new set of eyes. This was Rob’s first time to New York and was at the top of his list of places to go.

Jen, Rob and Zack spent time walking the city, eating lunch at Caffe Napoli Little Italy, enjoyed a roof top dinner at Versa NYC, shopped and rode bikes through Central Park and through the streets of NYC and just spent time together at the hotel.

With Memorial Day right around the corner it’s important to remember all the men and women who never made it home, and when you see a veteran or active duty military thank them for their sacrifice and welcome them home.

What was Dave up to?

Lost and alone without Jen, Dave took long naps, and listened to sad music. He did manage to drag himself out of bed and headed over to Southport Tap and Cellar Friday night to listen to Emily Burdette, a lovely acoustic singer/songwriter from Wilmington and then headed over to The Pub of Southport to catch Double Cherry Pie, a very dynamic duo who knows how to pack the house and the dance floor!

Don’t worry Jen and Dave are back together working this week and gearing up for a very busy Memorial Day weekend! There is so much to do this weekend, be sure to check out TheEventGuide.com for everything going on!
