Jen and Dave Go To The Up Your Arts Open Doors Gala

This past Sunday we had the privilege of attending the Up Your Arts Open Doors Final Reunion Tour Gala.

A little background on how the Gala came to be. Ginger Harper, the owner of the historic Harper House on Bay Street donated 19 historic doors to the Historic Society. They looked for a unique way to honor the doors’ history while also celebrating the community’s recovery following the pandemic.

The Historic Society partnered with Up Your Arts to create an exciting artistic way to turn these pieces of history into works of art. Artists were selected through a blind jury process.

The Doors went on tour in the retail locations, and then moved on to various nonprofit locations throughout the Southport region leading up to the Gala where they were auctioned off.

During the Gala the doors were auctioned off at a live auction to the public. Proceeds will benefit the stewardship of the Old Brunswick County Jail by the Southport Historical Society and Up Your Arts’ efforts to turn the Old Brunswick County Courthouse into a community-based center for creative and performing arts.

The Gala was a beautiful event and a great success. There was wonderful food provided by Middle of the Island Catering with hot food stations, an absolutely gorgeous charcuterie display and passed hors d’oeuvres.

Cat5 Band was fantastic and kept the dance floor full! They played a variety of genres and were a lot of fun!

In addition to the live auction, great food, and music there was a silent auction with so many great items donated by the community.

Don’t tell Rob… We won a ukulele in the silent auction! (And it looks like an avocado!)
