Jen and Dave Get Ready to Ride into the Sunset

On Thursday, Jen and Dave had the privilege of having Dinner with a Firefighter at the Southport Fire Department Headquarters. The chief himself, Charles Drew, made and served up some incredible chili. Jen and Dave got to chat with members of the community and meet several firefighters while enjoying dinner. The firefighters were also kind enough to answer numerous questions regarding the trucks and other equipment around the headquarters. The Southport Fire Department puts on several community events each year so be sure to check out The Event Guide to see what they’ve got coming up next.

Southport and Oak Island had another very busy weekend. One of the biggest events of the season, the US King Mackerel fishing tournament, took place this past weekend and what an amazing weekend it was for it. While we were not able to make it down for it, several people reported how much fun they had watching the fish come in to get weighed and the great music during the event.

Jen and Dave went to American Fish Company on Friday to check out The 52nd Street Band’s big debut in Southport. It was a beautiful night, and it was great to see them playing outside with a gorgeous sunset behind them. American Fish was absolutely packed with enthusiastic patrons who were enjoying the music and atmosphere.

Jen had her BFF Katie in town from Wisconsin, and they enjoyed going to all the fall markets, craft fairs, church bizarre and bake sales Saturday morning. One of Jen’s favorites is the Ocean View United Methodist Church chicken pie sale. This year they did chicken casserole and a bake sale. Dave was not invited.

Saturday Jen and Dave also attended the Tina’s Smile fundraiser event on Oak Island. The event was absolutely beautiful, thank you to everyone who came out and made this a huge success and to JT Mariotte, the Elks Lodge and the rest of the volunteers who put it together so fast.

Jen took Katie to The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro’s dinner and ghost tour. They had a lot of fun enjoying a great dinner and learning about the restaurant’s haunted history and then going on a tour of the old former home turned restaurant to search for spirits (not just the kind that come in a glass)! They offer this tour throughout the year, not just during spooky season. Dave had leftovers.

Looking Ahead
