Funny story, we set out A LOT of beads for decoration for this Mardi Gras party we had for the launch of TheEventGuide.com, and when we went to clean up after the party all the beads were gone!
We are so humbled by the turn-out for Mardi Gras! We can not thank everyone who helped make this event a success enough! We put a lot of time into planning and we hope it showed!
Sunday was a beautiful day! The weather was amazing when we got to Southport Tap and Cellar early to get things set up. Lucky for us we have some amazing friends who showed up and helped out tremendously.
We are also lucky to have so many great resources in the area to make events like this even more amazing. Big shout out to Party Time where we got a lot of our decorations and The Christmas House where we had our beautiful Mardi Gras bows made.
We want to thank Dewayne and Brittney for partnering with us and allowing us to launch TheEventGuide.com. Thank you so much to all the staff at Southport Tap and Cellar for working so hard and making the day so great!

The Music
One of the highlights of Mardi Gras was the band Bacon Grease! Everyone threw some cheese on it (If you don’t know what that means, you will have to check them out next time they are here). They played a wide variety of popular music and had everyone on their feet! Jared Michael Cline is lead vocals and guitar, JJ Street on Drums, and Christopher Marcellus on bass. Hey Bacon Grease, you guys were absolutely fabulous, thank you for being there for us!

The Food
There were two amazing food trucks at Mardi Gras keeping everyone fed, Wheelz Pizza and Papadom’s Singing Sangwich Truck. A huge thank you to both of them for making such amazing food with quick turn-around times.

The Fun
In addition to great music and food, we also had a King Cake Baking Challenge where the contestants baked king cakes at home and brought them to Southport Tap and Cellar to be judged on looks and taste.

King Cake Baking Contest Winners
Cake #3 won for best design, voted on by everyone at Mardi Gras congratulations Joelle!
Cake #4 won for best taste, in a blind taste test by a panel of 3 judges, congratulations Sonja!
Thank you to everyone who entered, you make it a lot of fun and did a wonderful job! All the cakes looked incredible!

Eating Contest
The day would not have been complete without an eating contest. We did a women’s and men’s division King Cupcake eating contest. The goal was to see who could eat 3 cupcakes the fastest. The winner for the women’s division was Diane and for the men’s was well, let’s just say we had two winners. When we were baking all those cupcakes we quickly discovered just how much Monkey loved them, so as a last minute surprise, Monkey entered the men’s division cupcake eating contest. Hands down Monkey won, but since it’s officially part of TheEventGuide.com we could not give him the won so the win went to Pat!

King and Queen of Mardi Gras
There were so many people decked out in their finest Mardi Gras attire. Crowning a king and queen was a tough job for the crowd. The winners were chosen by a show of applause. Thank you to everyone who dressed up and came just to have a fun time!

Raffle Winners
Congratulations to our raffle winners, one was still there to take her photo of how excited she was to win an amazing prize of a picnic basket and TheEventGuide.com Beach Chair and Umbrella! We will contact the other winner so they can collect their prize!
